Self-Medicating

There is a very important difference between having easy access to effective ways to self-medicate, and actually healing.

We find many different ways to self-medicate: using food, substances, music, entertainment, relationships, therapists, exercise... and of course it is in the best interests of our oppressive overculture to keep us chasing these things.

All of those things can also be vital elements of a healing journey. More often than not, however, they serve only to keep us stuck in our woundedness and unhealthiness, while keeping us from realizing just how stuck we really are.

Self-medicating relieves the pain and discomfort of our experiences, but it is inherently a temporary effect. To continue to find relief, we need more "medication."

Healing offers permanent resolution, and the opportunity to make new choices that help us avoid sustaining future harm.
