No matter how extreme our circumstances, no matter what degree of violence we are subjected to, no matter how severely we are limited by oppression, there is one inherent spark of freedom that cannot be truly taken away from us:

We are always free to choose how we understand what is happening to us.

And all fires of liberation spring from this spark.
